The Schilthorn and Piz Gloria

The Schilthorn is a summit above Mürren, and Piz Gloria is the building on top at 2,970 metres. The cable car from Mürren stops at Birg at 2,677 metres, then continues to the summit. The ride runs all year and takes about 15 minutes from Mürren and 24 minutes from Stechelberg.

In 1969 the film On Her Majesty's Secret Service was shot here, which is why the building became famous. Today it holds a revolving restaurant and a terrace. More than 200 peaks are visible from the restaurant in clear weather.

What to do at the top

The summit area has a few things you can do without paying anything extra.

  • Revolving restaurant: one full turn takes 45 minutes. It is open all year from 8:00 to 17:50 while the cable car runs, and the kitchen serves hot food from 11:00 to 16:30.
  • Skyline Walk: a viewing platform at the summit, free of charge.
  • Thrill Walk: a walkway out along the rock face at the Birg station, also free. We could not confirm its season, so check before you go.
  • Bond history: the 1969 film On Her Majesty's Secret Service was shot at the Schilthorn.

The cable car runs 365 days a year between Mürren, Birg and the Schilthorn, and the operating data show no autumn overhaul in 2026.

Tips for the Schilthorn

Start early

Shorter from Mürren

If you sleep in Mürren, the ticket is CHF 91.40 return instead of CHF 115.

Winter

The Mürren-Schilthorn ski area reaches almost 3,000 metres. With good conditions, skiing starts on 31 October 2026 on weekends only and runs daily from 21 November 2026.
